Learning & Exploration
This year there will be a mix of taught classes and dancer-guided exploration.

We don't consider ourselves authorities on how jazz dancing should be done. As guests in this culture, we want to share ideas to help you understand your own dancing and point you towards other resources for your learning. We’re continuing to experiment with ways to appreciate, understand and grow in the dance.
Structured Class:
Lindy Hop or Solo Jazz

We'll start our day off with classes in the format you may be most familiar with for weekend festivals. The Lindy Hop and Solo Jazz streams will run side by side and both streams will focus on exploring your self-expression in your dancing.
'Exploring Our Dancing' Session
14.15-15.45
​
A collaborative, minimally-structured session where trying things out and sharing ideas about dancing will be encouraged. Rather than have teachers, the event organisers will act as facilitators with the role of supporting individual and shared exploration. This will be led by ideas and questions from dancers.
Group-led Discussion
12.45--14.00
We think it’s important to have an ongoing conversation about the swing dance community and how we can make it more open and welcoming to as many people as possible. This will be a dedicated space for sharing ideas and experiences with each other.
Switching Class
16.00--17.00
A class to explore moves used to transition between following and leading roles. Our teachers will bring some of their favourites for you to try, then it's up to you to share your own with us all!
Saturday Social Dance
20.00--01.00 at Inch House
Take to the floor with the openness of being able to genuinely dance with every person in the room. Lead, follow or switch, it’s entirely your choice!

There will be live music from Castle Rock Jazz Band and a short cabaret!
The Castle Rock Jazz Band are in the business of serving up hot swing music, played by dancers for dancers. They draw influence from the great jazz artists and orchestras of the Swing era, while their experience as dancers ensures that the floor will be kept full all night. When they’re not on the stage, they’re busy jamming, working out new arrangements and throwing down on dance floors in Edinburgh and beyond.

Still going to be in Edinburgh on the Sunday? Join us for brunch to relax, drink tea, and carry on chatting! One of our favourite parts of the other editions was spending time with you all on Sunday afternoon.
If the weather stays nice we'll be outside and have our own music for that extra bit of dancing!
